Michael Owoyele’s winning goal sealed a dramatic 2-1 victory over Chekas United at the Maracana Stadium, sending Lekki United to the playoffs in style. The win not only helped the team top their group but also secured a spot in the playoffs round of the Nationwide League One.

Coach Ayo Filani’s tactical changes paid off early, as Fowoshade Al Amin’s clever finish gave Lekki United the lead in the 13th minute. Despite Osas Kelvin’s close-range effort being blocked at halftime, the team’s defense held strong, thanks to the impressive performances of Olayinka Alo, Adejuwon Natic, and Timileyin Odofin.

The introduction of Michael Owoyele and Balogun Rasheed proved pivotal, with Owoyele scoring the decisive goal five minutes after coming on. Although Lekki United conceded late, the 2-1 win was enough to secure a playoff spot.

The team needed to win and hope for favorable results elsewhere. With Roro Football Club and City Sports locked in a goalless draw, Lekki United’s 18 points were enough to top Group Maracana A and progress to the playoffs.

The team will now face the winners of Maracana B, Legacy Pitch A, and B in a round-robin format, vying for promotion to the Nigeria National League (NNL) for the 2025/2026 season.
